The 3rd AP-PLAT Regular Meeting on Capacity Development was recently held online, bringing together partner organizations to discuss collaborative efforts toward achieving the goals outlined in the AP-PLAT Three-Year Action Plan.

The meeting featured opening remarks from Mr. Yukihiro Haisa of Japan's Ministry of the Environment, followed by Dr. Kei Kurushima of IGES, who introduced the Three-Year Action Plan and a draft proposal on collaborative activities. Ms. Julie Amoroso-Garbin of UNFCCC RCC Asia and the Pacific provided a summary of the 2024 NAP progress report from the Asia-Pacific perspective. Dr. Yuji Masutomi and Ms. Maki Shibuya of NIES presented upcoming additions to the AP-PLAT website, including a GCF proposal development support tool and ClimoCast Pro.

Discussions on key initiatives and future directions for advancing climate resilience in Asia-Pacific

Discussions during the meeting emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts among AP-PLAT partners, supporting organizations, and regional stakeholders to drive successful climate adaptation initiatives. The development and design of ClimoCast for the Pacific were identified as urgent needs, with key topics including protocols, cycling information, extreme events, rainfall applications, and drought stress.

The AP-PLAT Adaptation Database was also highlighted as a valuable resource for sharing case studies and promoting knowledge exchange. Participants explored opportunities for co-organizing events at relevant forums, such as Adaptation Futures Conference 2025.

Closing Remarks and Continued Commitment

Dr. Masutomi concluded the meeting by highlighting AP-PLAT's key achievements since its 2019 launch, including capacity development activities in several countries and the establishment of a strong regional network. He emphasized AP-PLAT's continued commitment to impactful capacity development and collaboration to strengthen climate resilience in the region.
