AP-PLAT participated in JICA's training course on "Enhancing Access to Climate Finance ~Theory and Application for Practitioners"
Government officials from Tajikistan, Malawi, Cameroon, Costa Rica, Belize, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo visited the National Institute for Environmental Studies (NIES) on January 22nd, 2024, as part of JICA's training course on "Enhancing Access to Climate Finance: Theory and Application for Practitioners."
During the session, Dr. Yuki Yoshida explained Japan's governance system regarding climate change adaptation and the adaptation information platform in Japan: Climate Change Adaptation Information Platform (A-PLAT).
Ms. Yuka Suzuki introduced the Asia-Pacific Climate Change Adaptation Information Platform (AP-PLAT) and ClimoCast, a climate projection tool, which included a demonstration of its application for predicting future temperatures in cities. An analysis of the Maldives was also presented, demonstrating the remarkable accuracy in ClimoCast's projections.
JICA course participants visited laboratories to monitor greenhouse gases at NIES. Dr. Toshinobu Machida explained how atmospheric Greenhouse Gases (GHG) are measured using Japan Airlines (JAL) commercial aircraft.
An overview briefing on GOSAT and GOSAT-2, satellites focused on the observation of greenhouse gases, detailing their functions and objectives, was provided by Dr. Makoto Saito. The data collected by GOSAT contributes significantly to the field of climate change research and is used globally by scientists and researchers to understand and combat climate change.
We appreciate the participants' attention and questions during the lecture. We trust that the visit to NIES will prove valuable in supporting their mission to enhance climate resilience in their respective countries.
