The 6th Asia-Pacific Climate Change Adaptation Forum

The 6th Asia-Pacific Climate Change Adaptation Forum, the flagship event of the Asia Pacific Adaptation Network (APAN), was held October 17?19, 2018 in Manila, Philippines. More than 1,000 participants attended, including scientists and policy makers, to share and discuss urgent adaptation solutions to build resilience against the adverse impacts of climate change.

In the opening session on October 17, Yasuo Takahashi, Vice-Minister of Global Environmental Affairs, Ministry of the Environment of Japan (MOEJ), delivered a speech on Japan’s efforts and contribution in the field of climate change.

A member of the National Institute of Environmental Studies (NIES) and participants from Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines, and Mongolia joined the session “Information Infrastructure on Adaptation Measures and Technologies” on October 17 to introduce good practices and/or efforts to fill information gaps, and information infrastructure development. Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines, and Mongolia are targeted countries for bilateral cooperation projects funded and conducted by the MOEJ, and a more solid relationship was facilitated through this opportunity.

Furthermore, NIES displayed the Climate Change Adaptation Information Platform (A-PLAT) and preliminary Asia-Pacific Climate Change Adaptation Information Platform (AP-PLAT) for scientific information sharing (e.g., results of a climate change impact assessment based on numerical models) at the Market Place on October 17?19. Here, enterprises and organizations showcased adaptation actions and innovative and advanced adaptation technologies, services, and products in the Asia and Pacific region.
