Overview
A three-day workshop on building disaster and climate resilience in food and energy sectors was held in Vangvieng, Lao PDR, from 7 to 9 July 2025. The event convened national stakeholders to explore climate risks and strengthen technical capacity for evidence-based planning using downscaled climate projections and digital tools. As part of the program, AP-PLAT contributed a presentation on quantifying climate change–induced loss and damage in food production.

Participants engaged in expert-led sessions on early warning systems, anticipatory action, and methods for assessing climate-induced loss and damage. The workshop also served as a platform for dialogue on actionable priorities to enhance national resilience.
AP-PLAT Contribution
On Day 2, Dr. Yuji Masutomi of AP-PLAT delivered a presentation titled “Quantification of Future Loss and Damage from Climate Change in Food Production.” His session introduced scientific approaches to assessing climate-related impacts in agriculture, focusing on the MATCRO crop growth simulation model, which projects future crop development under changing climate conditions. Dr. Masutomi also briefly introduced a new research initiative in Japan: “Global Risk Assessment of Loss and Damage from Climate Change in Food Production” (2025–2028).
AP-PLAT is pleased to have contributed to this important event and hopes the workshop outcomes will support Lao PDR in strengthening disaster and climate resilience in food and energy systems.
