The National Institute for Environmental Studies (NIES) hosted a workshop as part of the JICA Thematic Training Course on Climate Finance for international trainees from 14 countries (Bangladesh, Cameroon, Cook Islands, Ethiopia, Fiji, Jamaica, Kenya, Kyrgyz, Nepal, Pakistan, Palestinian Authority, Sri Lanka, and Tuvalu) in collaboration with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the Overseas Environmental Cooperation Center (OECC).
The program emphasized the crucial role of scientific data in climate finance proposals, focusing specifically on incorporating data from ClimoCast into Green Climate Fund (GCF) concept notes. Dr. Masutomi provided an overview of the Asia-Pacific Climate Change Adaptation Information Platform (AP-PLAT) and demonstrated the ClimoCast tool, enabling participants to work with data relevant to their respective countries.

Ms. Shibuya, Climate Change Adaptation Coordinator, introduced new GCF-related content being developed for AP-PLAT. She shared survey results collected from the trainees prior to the workshop, which highlighted the common challenges faced by various countries in accessing and utilizing scientific data. During the workshop, participants worked in small groups of 2-3 people to brainstorm climate issues in their countries and practiced developing Section B.1 of their GCF concept notes using climate projections from ClimoCast.

This workshop was made possible through the continued support of JICA and OECC, strengthening international cooperation in addressing climate change challenges through evidence-based proposal development.
